ブログ第３９６弾です。

先週、息子二人と予想クイズみたいな事をしました。
結果は私が当てました。
それによって夕飯をどこで食べるか、子供たちが決めるか、私が決めるかの勝負でした。
私が勝ちましたが、冗談だから息子たちで決めて良いと言ったら
上の息子は勝負だからお父さんが決めてと言い
下の息子はお父さんがせっかくそう言うのだから、こちらで決めようと言いました。
同じように育てたつもりでも、全く意見が異なるので驚きました。

さて先日、あるテレビを見ていたら、エール大学の成田さんが出ていました。
英語の学習や大学についてでした。

話を聞いていて面白いなと思ったのが、世界大学ランキングにも触れられて
日本の大学が低いと言っても、条件が揃っているわけではないので比較のしようがない、
また、行く人の希望にもよるので一概に言えない。
全く仰る通りだと思いました。

また、日本でも英語を必要とする人と英語を必要としない人がいる。
必要としないなら学習する必要がない、必要とするにしても、
学習しないとするならば、まだ追い込まれていないだけじゃないですか？

人間易きに流れる典型ですね。
私は腹落ちし、さらに気合が入りました。

Blog No. 396th “Narita’s Method”

Hello everyone, this is the 396th episode of my blog.

I asked a quiz to my son last week.
As a result, I won.
This meant that either the kids or I would decide where to eat dinner.
Though I won, I said “You decide.”
Then my elder son said, “This is a match, so my father has to decide.”
My youngest son said, “Since my father said so, we should decide for ourselves.”
Even though I thought I was raising them the same way, their opinions were quite different, so I was surprised.

The other day, I was watching a TV program and Mr. Narita from Yale University was on.
It was about learning English and universities.

What I found interesting while listening to him was that he talked about world university rankings.
He said that even if Japanese universities are ranked low, there is no way to compare them because the conditions are not the same.
Also, it depends on what the person wants, so it is difficult to generalize.
I thought he was absolutely right.

Also, in Japan, there are people who need English and people who don’t.
If you don’t need it, you don’t need to study it.
Even if you do need it, if you’re not studying it, it just means you’re not in a pinch yet, right?

It’s a typical example of people taking the easy way out.
I understood what he said, and it made me even more motivated.

This week was a week of these thoughts.
